While you may not consider them low in price I have found them to be low in installed cost for small volume installations. My early experience was that many of the parts were very difficult to obtain because of production capacity limitations, however production has apparently been ramped up to where I haven not had any problems obtaining them from suppliers. In addition the data sheets are well written, including discussions of the devices limitations and where possible workarounds to these limitations. The application notes are also well written and have a number of real world practical examples. The application engineers have also been accessable and very helpful in the past. Much of the first stage interface and signal conditioning circuit in on the device making implementation farily straightforward.
