> Please update me ( I have been away from the discussion for months) on > what a Scenix SX is and where I can find data on it. It's a reprogrammable chip that has more or less the same instruction set as the PIC16C5X chips. The difference is that it can run about 20 times faster. The reasoning for making these parts is that, instead of spending big bucks developing hardware goodies that may prove faulty in the field, they give you super computing speed so you can write it in software. You can test your software fully and *know* it works. New applications only involve putting these libraries together. Other applications include programmable logic simulation. Because these beauties are so fast, you can simulate having a micro and a PLA in the same package. There is plenty of skepticism around as to whether these parts are vapourware or not. My development kit is on its way, so I can tell you they are real. But watch the plot thicken : Microchip sued Scenix for big bucks for patent infringements last year. Since Mchip have withdrawn all but two of the suits. I can predict that Microchip will sue Scenix again and again to keep their hands out of the mid-end micro cookie jar. Speaking of Mchip litigation; I notice that Mchip 'settled' some dispute over the Keeloq technology with Rohm and Excel. Does anybody know who paid who and what it was about? -- Friendly Regards Tjaart van der Walt mailto:tjaart@wasp.co.za _____________________________________________________________ | WASP International http://www.wasp.co.za/~tjaart/index.html | | R&D Engineer : GSM peripheral services development | | Vehicle tracking | Telemetry systems | GSM data transfer | | Voice : +27-(0)11-622-8686 | Fax : +27-(0)11-622-8973 | | WGS-84 : 26¡10.52'S 28¡06.19'E | |_____________________________________________________________|
