Not everyone agrees with that statement. I, for one, would rather have them delivered into my email box. But that's neither here nor there. This one doesn't appear to be Nigel's fault. I noticed several posts that looked familiar. They were; all were originally posted last Sunday (18 Jan 1998). From the headers, they all claimed to have been reposted by 195.210.91.100 (ischia.iol.it) to dante.iol.it (195.210.91.2). They were then sent to MIT for PIC list distribution. From rs.internic.net, I found that the 195.210.91.0 class C network number was one of many allocated to European Regional Internet Registry (RIPE). Using RIPE (http://www.ripe.net), I found that iol.it and 195.210.91.0 are Italia Online S.P.A. This is an Internet service provider in Milano Italy (maybe more cities; their contacts' addresses are in Milano). It looks like someone is intentionally flooding the PIC list _or_ accidentally misconfigured their mailer. My bet is someone screwed up -- incompetance is generally more likely than malicious intent.
