Jon: Use the Motorola MC14499 or MC14489 driver. Both have SPI /Microwire 3 wire interface. With the MC14489 you can drive 28 lamps or bar graph elements or five 7-segment LEDS. Mount the driver on your display board and you have the equivalent of a LCD module. The drivers can be serially chained for larger displays Roger Hi, I would like to use an LED or LCD module in an automotive application. The module would be mounted in the passenger compartment and subject to ambient temperatures in Arizona of 150 deg F. I don't believe a LCD can take that temperature. I don't want to use 8 I/0 pins to drive LEDs. Any suggestions? I was thinking of the digital instrument panels. Does anyone make an LED module that has a similar interface like an LCD? I want to make a digital fuel gauge, maybe use a bar graph. In addition I would like to display "Fuel Level" or other measured parameters. I know you can think of something.
