No, it will not become public domain.  This coding was done for my employer
who pays plenty for this work, and places trade secret and copyrights on
everything.  Sorry.

Yes, the 14000 does have dedicated I2C hardware, completely implementing
the slave functions, and supporting bit-banging multi-mastering by
generating interrupts on start and stop conditions.
