John: The 16C5x programming method is COMPLETELY different from the 16C84/F84 method... A 16C5x programmer needs access to all 12 I/O lines, it needs to accurately time the programming pulses it sends to the PIC, and it may need more Vpp current than your serial port can provide. Sorry, but you can't just "modify" your C84 programmer to do 16C5x's...
