Hello all fellow "Serial Sonar" enthusiasts, I have succeeded in making an ultrasonic rangefinder which interfaces serially (4 wire, incl. gnd) with a PC over the PC's parallel port (so no level conversion was needed). It has an effective range of about 10 feet, uses 20 parts, and has a useful resolution of about 1.1 centimeters, minimum useable range of about 5 cm. I am continuing to try to improve the range among other things, but since it seems to be working reliably up to this point, I have posted the schematic, PIC16C84 source code, and PC source code as well as EXEs for it to my web page http://www.people.cornell.edu/pages/shb7/ranger.html I am interested in hearing how well anyone succeeds in building/improving my design, as well as any new ideas on this thread in general. I am also willing to provide any assistance that I can to others either trying to use my schematic/code or just trying to build rangers. My email is mailto:shb7@cornell.edu Good luck, Sean +--------------------------------+ | Sean Breheny | | Amateur Radio Callsign: KA3YXM | | Electrical Engineering Student | +--------------------------------+ http://www.people.cornell.edu/pages/shb7 Web Page Under Construction! mailto:shb7@cornell.edu
