The security strips that I've seen at music and book stores are embedded in a tamper resistant white plastic casing that is securely adhered to the product. Removing these would probably be difficult and also draw attention. An idea would be do use a small flexible strip magnet with some pre-applied adhesive on one side and (inconspicuously) tack it on to the security strip. This would probably detune the strip enough to avoid detection.
