Thanks to all those who responded to my radio Rx/Tx plea. I now have some surfing to do!

I've recently also had the idea of replacing the radio link with an infra-red link, could use plenty LEDs at the hand held, with tone decode at hub to reject ambient IR. - Any input?


Alec Myers - I had considered ultrasonic in both directions, but dismissed the idea because I would probably get echoes from near by trees. I suppose one could consider trying to use different frequencies, that way you could tell 
which 'echo' came from the hub.
