serial comms on a pc does seem to be a complex issue in windows, but it
is quite easy from dos using C++...

look up bioscom, inportb, outportb

bioscom is basically the C++ version of  int 14h

can you point me towards somewhere where I can find info on the same
subject but for Delphi
