I'm sure that you have gotten a majority vote for HPGL.

There is a PD piece of code call hpgl2ps you can find on the web
that will give you some ideas.  I have an AMDEK DXY-100 plotter
that I no longer use because it is much easier to use a postscript
printer in this day and age.
