I checked them out, and the Xecom look fine. But the price for a 2400 baud modem is just unacceptable. The Cermetek 2400 baud is also high priced IMO, but is significantly cheaper than the Xecom. The Cermetek from a price standpoint is at least competitive with a external modem, though the external modem has a power supply allready and I can steal my 5 volts from there. The best part of the modem IC is the ease of putting everything on one PCB. Most likely I will deal with Cermetek and make everything compact, which I wanted in the first place.
