Regards,>> No. The only way to tell is to send some chars and see what comes out if its a 16 char length and only one chip on the back its a cheat's one IE 2 x 8 in a single line they need the second chip to be a proper 16 char unit because else they map the chars 0-7 and 40-47 on the second line as the second line. All the char ram is on the first chip and AFIK there is no software method of determining the display configuration. An answer may be to use a 30 pin simm socket to plug the display into to check its performance this would then display chars as required without trashing the solder pads. Well its a thaught.
