I believe that creating circuit boards by "additive" techniques is a rather
hot research area, it being attractive from a hazardous waste point of view,
as well as making possible building the patterns on uneven surfaces and a
variety of otherwise unlikely substrates.  I think the tendancy is to
dispense with actual solder at the same time, using assorted conductive
adhesives instead.
