The toner sticks much better than on acetate transparencies. It's also much cheaper! Very heavy drafting film is also OK, but expensive and can distort when fused. For all but the simplest PCBs you need to laserprint at 600DPI. I regularly do PCBs with 40 tracks per inch off a 600DPI laser with no probs. Spray-on photoresist is useless outside a cleanroom - dust always gets on the PCB before it dries. Use pre-coated board.
