I'm using a '65A (got the BRGH bug too) at 9600 baud with only a 455KHz clock, and it seems to work. Surely with a 4MHz (or thereabouts) clock you can set a value in SPBRG to achieve 9600 baud with BRGH cleared, and hence the bug avoided?
