Yes I'm using the SPI in the same app. I've tried it with both 4 clocks per
SCLK, and 64 clocks per SCLK. No, I haven't actually fed sample data in
through the SPI port, but instead modified the received register
immediately after the SPI transaction. Cheating, I know, but good enough
for me. The simulator does seem to take the appropriate number of clocks to
carry out the SPI process, and drives the appropriate status bits just
fine. I didn't have any problems on the SPI bus, which I'm using to get
data from a Crystal 5504 A/D (very good).
