For what its worth, MAXIM have released some Future Product news and have described a 16 pin UART with SPI/MicroWIre interface which can run from 2.7V to 5.5V. Part number is MAX3100, available after April 1997. Some brief specs are.. IrDA SIR Compatible 8-word RX FIFO Up to 230kbaud operation 9 bit address recognition interrupt RTS & CTS supported. Sounds like a useful device for use with the PIC for really fast serial functions. > From: Alec Myers > For bit-banging serial-port code, try Microchip's Application Note AN585 > (look in the example code) If this isn't clear enough, I can email you some > of my code (though not guaranteed to be any clearer...) > > Regards > > > Alec > > > > >Hello everyone, > > > > I must agree with Andy Kunz, I don't care if it costs $100 for windowed SMT > >pics, I would buy many. > > > >also, I am still looking for reference material on bit-banging (data packet > >reception with out using a UART) techniques for 16c71, or any PIC for that > >matter.
