Try National MM5452 or MM5453.  Each drives 32 ('52) or 33 ('53) segments
with a common backplane.  Doesn't matter at all how the segments are
arranged (other than in your software).

You might also check around on the National and Motorola sites for more.

Several of these will do the trick.  You can get a sample to drive a
4-digit 7-segment from my LCD-422 PDF (ask for a copy).
