The half life of a part on my bench is usually less than the EPROM
erasure spec due to placing 120VAC on RA2, spilling coffee on the
whole thing, my cat knocking over the soldering iron and melting the
protoboard into the leads, etc. etc.  So far I have not seen a part
that I could wipe out by erasing too many times, or by leaving it in
the eraser overnight.
