I'm trying to build a hand-held autoranging tachometer. The encoder I'm using will give 128 5-volt pulses per revolution to my counter on the PIC. I need to program the chip so it can take the number of pulses and display them to a four digit display. What I mean by autoranging is the display should always use all four digits and move the decimal point to the correct location. I'm new at this and really don't understand where to begin. I have the embedded control handbook as well as the data sheets for the PIC's but they're not helping me much. I'll take any advice I can get. Is there anyone that could program the chip for a small fee in the area of Worcester, Ma? I'm willing to set up a meeting and explain in further detail what I need the PIC to do. Ray
