re: 16C84 Async Serial Transceiver Jean, you might consider implementing a simple 3-wire, SPI-style, serial bus depending on your application. That would eliminate the RS-232 `glue' since you are driving an optical network. All you need is serial data out, serial data in, and serial clock.
