I'm also trying to remote control a Sony Camcorder, I did a web search for LANC, and the only place I could find was: "http://pasture.ecn.purdue.edu/~laird/Electronics/Sony/Protocols/lanc2.txt" Unfortunately this URL could not be found, and I tryed looking all over Kyler Laird's web site. Eventually I E-Mailed Kyler, but I couldn't make any sense of his reply!. I E-Mailed again for clarification, but have never received another answer. I then E-Mailed a 'Technical Liason Officer' at Sony UK (sometimes it comes in handy been in the TV trade!) asking for any info on LANC protocols. He sent me a copy of 'Protocol of Control L/Lf 9-972-453-11', a 28 page technical bulletin describing the protocol. If you approach Sony you may be able to obtain a copy direct by quoting that part number. So far I haven't done any work on LANC, I'm finding the bulletin a bit hard to understand - what I could really do with is a short example of code, preferably for a PIC, showing exactly what you have to do. The signals are 8 bit words at 9600 baud, low bit first. The bulletin shows 8 words sequentially, the first 2 are for 'Camera, PC, and Editor to VCR', the second 2 are for 'Tuner and Timer to VCR', and the last 4 are for 'VCR to exterior, status and counter value'. Do you have to always send 8 word packets? - it doesn't make it very clear!. Nigel.
