Try using a lower capacitor value if you are using a breadboard. I use a 2Mhz crystal in XT mode (C values according to the data sheet values, 22pF). The trouble is that when I turn on the power and hold the reset low, I see a nice sine wave at the CLKOUT pin. When I release the reset button however, it seems to disappear. What could be wrong ? (By the way, how sensitive is the PIC to electrostatic disharge...)
