Depending on the frequency of your 'sine wave', you might not have the
part grounded. When you press reset, you do! (This is for 60 hz/50hz sine
waves on osc pin). Maybe this could be true for the crystal too, as the
PIC might be able to oscillate with it being only grounded thru the reset
pin.
