By and far you would best be served by getting whats called a "Pheonix"
upgrade from Jim Robertson ( and his trusty dog )

Up to about a couple of weeks ago, it was on his web site as free beta
software.
It includes a DOS program and a new firmware load (16C42) which
is provided in a Hex file.  It is now sold as a product ( I believe
$20.00) from links on his page

I have not got the final version, but the beta stuff has worked fine.
Rough in a couple of areas, but functions fine.

Otherwise, MCHIP has the original driver software on their site under
the "TOOLS" link. You also need Firmware 2.0 if you
want to program any of the 16c62X parts or anything that has come out in
the last year or so in 8, 18, or 28 pin packages.
