I've had a similar experience with switching to Win95 and MPLAB v:1.12.
At first, MPLAB-C v: 1.21 wouldn't compile, or gave me a fatal error
message without successfully calling the DOS routine.  Then,
mysteriously, it began to work.  So I left it alone.  It would be good
to understand this.
