I've been using the new MPLAB with the PRO MATE for about a week and so
far it's working great. The PRO MATE accepted the new firmware without
any problems.

Make sure you have the correct COM port settings under
Options|Programmer Options|Communications Setup and that you don't
mistakenly have the PICSTART Plus selected as the current programmer
instead of the PRO MATE.
