I made the move from running my project with the emulator to running with
the actual part today. Seems to work fine at 5V but when I switch from power
supply (5V) to battery (3.6V) the PIC doesn't seem to run.

I programmed the PIC with my Picstart Plus. I ordered a Promate two weeks
ago but due to the efficient purchasing group they haven't placed the order
yet. I seem to recall something about needing a special programmer for other
than 5V supply operation. Can someone please enlighten me. The data book
didn't seem to.
