Hi,
I have a project that I am currently using a Liteon IR receiver in a little
 metal can,
similar to the one we all se in consumer electronics.  I am short on front panel
space and am considering mounting the IR reciever on the PC board with the
associated IC.  Can someone tell me how critical the can is?
