I use a PICmaster & an ICEPIC. I prefer the PICmaster between the two.
Once Microchip debugs and upgrades the current MPLAB, there'd be even
more reason
to buy the PICmaster (The IDE is very easy to use & PICstart plus
software
is a plug-in on MPLAB).

It is expensive, but I've learnt that saving money on development tools
is
penny wise and pound foolish. If you buy something inferior at half the
price,
it is going to cost you one-and-a-half time the price in the end anyway.
