There is a very good article on Wave Synthesis written by Motorola available at

 www.motorola.com

It applies to DSP chips, but the essential theory is really what's
important. And once you realise how it works, you will be able to tackle any
kind of waveform generation.

Admittedly, the square wave and ramp signals are simpler than the rest, and
