Pardon me for picking nits, but... what happened is that ISO adopted a somewhat changed (in theory only editorial changes to the organization were made, but we know about the difference between theory and practice) and ANSI adopted the ISO standard as its official standard so that there would be only one set of words officially defining Standard C. And in fact six years is pretty darned good for an international standard that affects so many people and so much code.
