In K&R 1st edition, look up "squirrel" in the index.

My favorite humorous item from a technical manual was the Apple DOS 3.2
manual's explanation of why floppy disks needed to be initialized (formatted)
before use:
        On a clear disk you can seek forever.

There certainly isn't much humor to be found in Microchip manuals.  Sigh.
