Just offhand, I think I'd use a relay to handle the rocket igniters.
     They are generally more robust in regard to overload.  I'd also put a
     fuse or fast circuit breaker (or solid state current limiter) in
     series with the relay in case you short out the igniter leads.

Not only to drive an LED segment, I'd like to hear suggestions for
using a controller to ignite rocket ignitors.  As I understand, I'll
need at least an amp to do that.
