It's designed for single-supply operation with an input range down to ground and has an OC output. There's a dual version in an 8-pin DIP, though the boad space is about all you save, which is probably why I can never remember the part number. :-) Or any other of the numerous op-amps or comparators that are designed and spec'd for single-supply operation - it's a wildly popular market segment these days, or at least you would think so based on the number of chips being designed for it. The 339 is a nice mature old part and is probably more available and less expensive unless you need high speed or really low power consumption. Luck!
