Joe:

The code-protect bit is permanent in the JW part because it's
permanent in the OTP parts... Both packages use the same silicon,
which is why Microchip can afford to sell the JW parts for less than
$100 apiece, which they wouldn't be able to do if the JW parts used
a unique die.  Very GOOD design.
