Well I don't know what to say about the draw on Mclr, but perhaps someone else is more insightful on that. I simply plug them into the programmer and see if they work. As for using the chip, I would keep using it till the thing don't work at all.. I have one 16c622 that the config bits take about an hour to erase, but I don't change the config bits, so I use it anyway.. It has a ES on the chip, so I know it is old, and it was given to me by the local application eng, who knows how many times he has used it. I think I herd mention one time that the config bits are of weaker makeup than the program bits.. Don't know for sure on this.
