the best reslts i have have is the following

1. print a mirror copy of the overlay on gloss ink jet paper.

2. make a color copy (most copy centers have color copiers) onto
   the transparency for color copiers.  this cost me about $1 per page.

this creates an overlay with the color fussed into the plastic. by
creating a mirror image the ink is also on the inside and won't
wear off from use.
