If I was going to do ultrasonic, I'd use the Polaroid module.  It's
     set up to range from something like 9 inches to 32 feet (working from
     memory, here :) ).  They aren't real cheap, but you might be able to
     put one on a rotating platform to get the multi-directional
     capability.

Does Anybody know about good DISTANCE SENSORS for use with a pic 16c74, I
thought i'd use ultrasonic but the i'd need a transmitter and a reciever
for every direction (4 directions to measure), the Xmitters need a 40kHz
signal to operate...
