Consider the 17C44 used in Microprocessor mode i.e. unprogrammed with
external eprom.

I do not have access to a programmer for this device, ( only a
Picstart 16b ) but do have a 27 series Eprom programmer.

Does anyone know if the configuration bits can be programmed in the
Eprom as it would be desirable to use a low frequency crystal (
32KHz) to save power.
