Hi All... Just downloaded the latest version (thanx Darrel) of MPLAB, and would like to voice a caution if you are about to do so. The caution is this: When the install program asks if you want to keep backup copies of your existing (about-to-be-replaced) programs - say YES. I'm sure glad _I_ did!! The new version did _not_ work for me. I was unable to install the later PicStart Plus software as I didn't just happen to have a blank 17C44. With PicStart v. 1.01.06, the new MPLAB claimed to program my 16C74s ( three different ones ) just fine. Only trouble is, it didn't _really_ program them. They also verified "OK" too. *PANIC* You mean I have to stop development until I can get a 17C44, and then _hope_ things will work? Will this new version program the 17C44 so that I can use the new version? Hmmmm. Bottom line - I simply copied back all the backup files (version 3.09.10) that had been saved in the install process, and everything immediately worked again!! Phewww. 8^) Incidentally, I am _not_ saying that there is anything wrong with the new version - I didn't make a big project out of trying to find what had gone wrong. All I'm saying is I did the obvious, and it failed completely. Caveat beta user, ...Shel Michaels sbmichaels@aol.com
