>What platform BeOS designed for and what are its attributes? BeOS is was originally designed to run on BeBoxes although they are now starting to port it to Mac clones. They are multiprocessor (dual right now) powerpc computers. Be decided that enough was enough with the pcs of today. Todays PCs have been built up with backward compatability for the past 15+ years. They decided to start with a new computer design, new processor (PowerPC) and better yet, a totally new OS. Completely designed for multithreads, multiprocessors etc. They are doing it right! Downside, they are a new company with a new OS. therefor there is not much software available at this time for them. On the plus side, Be is offering the computers for pretty cheap for developers. (a friend got a base system, dual 66Mhz for $1000 I think) Another friend got a dual 133. Ever see a computer running 7 quicktime movies at the same time? Pretty slick. Also there are many I/O ports on this beast. 6 Serial, a couple parallel, and even one called a "geekport" (kid you not) which has a A/D convertor if I remember correctly. For more information I highly encourage you to go to their web site Have fun, -Dave Negro P.S. And with that said, lets end this Platform/OS discussion. This is the _PIC_ list right?
