As far as I know, that is true. The Motorola assembler suit that Motorola provides for programming the 68HCxx family does use standard output. I have used "mcasm," their assembler and redirected its output with absolutely no problem at all. If mpasm, mpsim, and mps16c/mps16b used standard output, this off-topic thread I started would never have come up. I would be doing battle with program logic and wondering whether I should use a crystal or could get by with a RC network rather than wondering whether I can make the otherwise good tools work. Modern P.C's are so fast that standard I/O probably looks much the same as direct screen writes used to look so all that happens is that things just get more difficult than they otherwise would be. Oh well, here I go griping again. Martin McCormick WB5AGZ Stillwater, OK 36.7N97.4W OSU Center for Computing and Information Services Data Communications Group
