"Easy Pic'n" is a good place to start. It has simple, instructive
real-world programming examples for the beginner. Use it in conjunction
with the Microchip Data Books and Embedded Control Handbook. Unlike them,
"Easy Pic'n" has a nice spiral binding that lies flat on the benchtop.
