Easy way is to reverse engineer the VCR remote control. Put a scope on the
output of the chip that drives the LED and look for the frequency of the
burst 30-50Khz and the Burst Length for each bit and the burst pattern for
each command.

I need to be able to generate the relevant infra-red output for the
following commands: POWER ON, RECORD, STOP.

If anyone's already done something like this I'd appreciate any advice
and especially some code too :-)
