Hello all. I have built a stingy person's version of AN589. The power supply switching side seems to be ok with multimeter tests. Assuming the software by Andrew Ermington is correct, i suspect a problem with data/clock lines that is causing my problem : failure to get the damn thing working. I may have also blown the pic, but its a shocking thought and so lets just pretend we haven't thought of that yet. I have not used a 74LS244 (stinginess) because they cost too much and i think i'm a pretty smart guy. Instead, to isolate the data lines on the printer port and the pic, i have used a 10k resistor. This is supposed to replace the tri-state buffer of the '244. The data into the printer port is connected directly to the pic. The clock line from the printer port also goes straight to the pic. I have not used any of these tri-stating features because of the cost and i really am not worried about programming in-circuit, just programming would be fine. Andrew Ermingtons software says that its programming and says that it has verified and blown fuses (takes 62seconds) from win 95. So assuming that the software can check it out, there can't be any problem with the clock/data lines, right? Does anyone have experience with this programmer? thank you.
