Pablo,

You must also consider the size difference, the 16C64 is only 2K while
the 16C74 is 4K. There are other differences, the 16C64 has less PWM
outputs.

If you are under 2K and not using these peripherials, then the 16C64
can be used as a replacement. I often mix the devices during development
myself.

Also consider the 16C65, this is a more direct replacement of the 17C74.
However it would probably be more expensive than the 16C64 and I have
heard the 16C65 is full of bugs. Check it out anyway.
