Thanks to everyone with the resistance question.  I think I will use a FET
and PWM pulse to drive an external power source to save costs and the hassle
of finding a digital pot.  How big a filter cap should I use and what's the
 bestway to program the pulse to drive a 9v battery on the FET and avoid noise?
