My appologies guys, seems the gentleman at Gates Engineering, who gave me the quote used the wrong price reference! I still have his original handwritten reply to me, on which he had written the PIC part numbers and US$ prices at the bottom of my fax to him on October 25, 1995, for proof that he did indeed quote those prices to me! I received this on October 27, 1995, when I picked up the 16C84-10 sample and the 1995/1996 data book. My fax plainly stated in typewritten English, that I was requesting Single Unit Pricing and Availability in Singapore, for PIC 16C55, 16C64, 16C71, 16C73, 16C84, AND 16C42. I also sent similar faxes to Maxim and Analog Devices Reps in Singapore, who also replied similarly, by just annotating my original fax with availability of chips and pricing in Singapore. They on the other hand, did at least specify if the price was for single or if there was a minimum quantity! Sorry for not getting to bottom of this sooner, but right after I sent this info off to the PICLIST, I went on holiday. I have just now returned, and downloaded three weeks of the PICLIST Digest, and read all of the news. I also have had hard time getting Gates on phone from Indonesia, although faxing is usually OK. I think main reason is they have recently moved to new offices, and although address has changed, phone and fax numbers are being call forwarded by local telephone company. Normally I always followup any fax I send, with a short phone call to confirm that the recipiant received my fax. I have also sent them a request to send me a written explanation of the foulup, but I have yet to receive it.
